Marshall came into Tuesday night’s game with uplifted spirits after downing Pine Tree in their previous game. But that emotional flame was quickly doused once the ball was tossed, and the Mavericks got a taste of the Tiger way. Mount Pleasant wasted no time in dismantling Marshall as they cruised to their 25th straight victory on the season.

Kelcey Morris got the Tigers on the board off the tip with a smooth swipe of the ball and a layup. The Mavericks would answer with a two-point bucket in the paint to knot the score at 2-2. On the ensuing possession, the Tigers would answer as Reggie Webster set up Carter Chism for a three-point splash that would start a 12-2 run that lasted the rest of the quarter. Four of the five Tiger starters would get in on the scoring action early as Webster and Kai Price also knocked down shots to get on the board.

As has been the story all season, the second quarter was all Mount Pleasant as the Tigers began the frame with a 13-0 run. Their half court defense was stifling as Marshall was only able to muster up 5 points in the quarter, unable to score until 1:45 left in the half. The Tigers would push the lead to 30-9 when the buzzer sounded at the intermission.

The second half was much of the same as the Tiger reserves saw some heavy minutes. The score deficit would remain plus-20 for the rest of the game with Marshall unable to get into any flow offensively. The Tigers were led in scoring by senior guard Kelcey Morris’ 14 points to go along with 5 assists and 1 steal. Freshman Carter Chism poured in 11 points to go with 3 assists and 4 steals. Junior Kai Price had a nice game with 9 points and 3 rebounds and sophmore Reggie Webster also notched 9 points with 4 assists and 3 steals. Xavier Hills chipped in with 4 points and 3 rebounds and Jordyn Hurndon added 3 points. Other scorers were De’Keivous Heath 2 points, Luke Hampton 2 points, and Kyler Smith 1 point.

The Tigers (25-0, 6-0) will travel to Tyler (14-7, 4-2) with two games on the slate before returning home next Tuesday to begin the second round of district play versus Whitehouse.
