The Mount Pleasant Tigers continue to make an imprint on the record books as more milestones draw closer. Recently, senior guard Kelcey Morris reached 1,000 career points and senior guard Payton Chism surpassed the 1,500 career point plateau. On Tuesday night, the Tigers kept pace with the
2020-2021 team that went 27-0 to start their season, matching the school record win streak by defeating Whitehouse soundly.
The Tigers opened the game scoring the first 5 points of the contest on a Reggie Webster and-1 drive and finish followed by a Carter Chism floater on a nice feed from Kai Price. Whitehouse would cut the lead to 5-2 on a pull-up jumper with 5 minutes remaining in the quarter to get on the board but would fail to pull any closer. An 11-4 run for the remainder of the frame would give the Tigers the cushion they needed to coast the rest of the way. The Tigers would pummel the paint scoring nearly half of their points around the rim. Jordyn Hurndon would knock down the Tigers’ first shot from behind the arc with three minutes remaining in the half to put Mount Pleasant up 23-8. The Tigers would close out the second quarter up 25-13.
The lead would continue to blossom in the second half as the Tigers outscored the Wildcats 13-10 to increase their lead to 38-23. The bottom would then fall out as Mount Pleasant went on a three-point barrage led by Carter Chism and Jordyn Hurndon who connected on six long range shots in the quarter combined.
Carter Chism finished the night as the leading scorer for the Tigers with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-4 3Pt) with 3 assists and 1 steal. Reggie Webster (4-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and Kelcey Morris (5-11 FG) each had 10 points. Webster pulled down 5 rebounds with 3 assists and 1 block and Morris added 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals to his stat line. Jordyn Hurndon (3-5 FG, 3-3 3Pt) added 9 points and 3 steals while Kai Price chipped in across the board with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Other scorers were De’Keivous Heath 5 points, Payton Chism 4 points, Kyler Smith 3 points, and Xavier Hills 2 points.
The Tigers (27-0, 8-0) will return to action on Friday as they travel to Hallsville (17-10, 4-4) to take on the Bobcats. Mount Pleasant won the first matchup between the two teams 58-37.
